Yeah that's not even a bad idea and I have to admit I'm kind of doing it right now. I recently acquired a very rare dvd set (too embarrassing to name) and it's so rare that right now I'm seriously the only copy on e-bay so I went stupid high and said I'd be willing to hear offers. There are like 2 or 3 copies on Amazon right now and all are asking astronomical prices, so yeah, seems rare at least. I don't have actual print run data but I know the releases were cancelled after that one so it's possible it was VERY small. I actually have two sets like that right now. I turned down a $200 for one recently because I'm admittedly a jackass.
I suppose that isn't bad either. I know of a few amazon stores that overprice anything remotely valuable and OOP and do most of their actual sales for cheap commons.
Unrelated things: Norther version of Final Countdown is delicious and I really fucking hate Aniplex of America.
