Now it's just me, sitting here all alone, waiting for the Canucks/Sharks series (BATTLE OF THE KILLER PACIFIC ANIMALS!!) to start, wondering if I should run out and grab a beer.
Evidently, the answer is "hell yes."
I know as much about Hockey (capital H) as you do about cars, but...
Hell, yes.
I made it back in time for the national anthems.
Say what you will about the Canucks -- I like the team but I hate their fans -- but when Mark Donnelly starts singing the Canadian anthem and he switches out to let the crowd sing one of the verses, it still gives me chills. I'm hoping they do better this year -- they were steamrolled by the Kings last year in the first round.
To be fair, though, no one could beat the Kings last year.
Playoff hockey started yesterday. Today is the first game of a Best-of-7 series between the Vancouver Canucks and the San Jose Sharks. The Canucks haven't faired well in the playoffs the last few years -- they lost against Chicago in the 2nd round four years ago, then they lost against Chicago in the 2nd round three years ago, then they lost against the Bruins in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in an absolute blowout of a game two years ago (if you hear anyone ever talk about the Vancouver riot, this is what sparked it), then they went out in the first round against the LA Kings last year. For the last three years, the team that they lost to ended up winning the Stanley Cup.
Playoff hockey is intense, addictive, awesome, and on every fucking day at the start of the playoffs. It puts some of us into overdrive. And I live just outside of Vancouver, so the energy around town today is palpable.
As for the whole "national anthem" thing, I just love hearing the national anthem sung in a full stadium with everyone joining in. It's one of the things that gives me goosebumps every time.
Èee3eeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrnnnmnnnngggg.......g'night
Goddamn this is a good game. The Western Conference is really putting up some great games right now.
Ya'll motherfuckers are gonna have to keep listening to me talk about hockey unless someone comes in here and starts posting.![]()
Dog wanted a tummy rub; was jumping the doggy fence, pee'ing inside the house... Needed some tending to.
You can easily tell when mom or aunt aren't home.
Edit: Instruct me some more!
I'm out of things to instruct with right now. This is a very physical game where no one is really giving an inch. It's still 0-0 at the halfway point of the game. I didn't realize how much these two teams hate each other.

I assume the first listed team is the one you're refering to...?

Yes, but the Canucks are playing the San Jose Sharks right now. LA Kings won the Cup last year -- they're in a series against the St. Louis Blues right now.
