You have to get plus for a whole year to get free games?
I thought it'd be like gold, you just get it when you want to use it (which for me is like never, unless I get free codes).

That's a lie. I would totally do this if I hadn't just spent all of my money on NES games.

You don't have to, but it's like Gold -- the longer you subscribe for, the cheaper it is per/month. I think you can get 3-month/6-month/12-month subscriptions, but the free games only work if you have an active subscription. If you cancel, you can't keep the free games.

That doesn't sound good at all.
The only stuff that I have that doesn't work atm (because I don't have gold) is multiplayer stuff.

This is above and beyond the regular online services, though. For $50/year, you get new free games pretty much every week (quality of the games vary from shitty PSN titles to AAA releases) plus additional discounts. The free games are conditional upon your subscription -- that's the only thing you lose if you cancel. Anything I buy with an additional discount will remain tied to my account. This has nothing to do with multiplayer or any other online service -- all of that is outside of the Plus subscription.

The difference is you need Gold to play multiplayer (and watch Netflix and other online services, I believe) on 360. You don't need Playstation Plus to do anything on the PS3 -- it's just an additional service for people who do want to pay a "membership fee" (essentially) to get additional discounts and some free games.

Just had a look and stuff at superhero movies coming up.

    All gay.

    Gay.

But then what do I care. Not like I'd pay to watch any of them in the first place.

You don't need gold to play free games (or even DRM Free content), unless they're multiplayer (like Happy Wars).
I thought you hardly ever played multi/co-op anyway?
    I've never paid for gold

There are free games to download/play without PS+ as well.

I suspect XBL will drop the online play only on gold eventually anyways. And make gold more like PS+ and silver will be like regular psn.
