    Default paper mario soundtrack skipping

So I'm running Dolphin 3.5-144 to emulate Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door. Starting a little bit before hand, but a lot once I get into the main plaza in Rougueport (the first area for those who don't know), the soundtrack starts skipping alot. This problem has persisted across different copies of the .iso from different sources as well as different saves. Thanks in advance for any help.

Try changing the sound option to DSP LLE, and use different Audio Backend options.

I tried your suggestions and the only noticeable difference is that the frequency of the skips increases.

Additionally, changing from the Medium efficiency LLE to the low efficiency LLE causes the skips to increase in frequency even further

Can you try it on the official release, 3.5? I doubt the sound issue can be fixed perfectly at this time, other users manage to make the game sound 'well(less skipping, crackling etc)' using DSP LLE, but later on the problem will occur again at some point of the game.

It is one of the known problem for this game, refer to this wiki for more info. Good luck

Dolphin 3.5 and revisions onwards does this with a lot of games. They decided to keep HLE sound close to LLE sound with some extra speed still. Also, if your PC can handle it, try running LLE on thread. Try OpenAL, comes with revision 3.5-247 onwards.

OpenAL seems to work best, on the wiki it says things indirectly about its latency and stuff like that. Despite the latency, it becomes like pcsx2's default synchronised sound with some extra crackling of course since it's new.

3.5 is still the almost the same since it is the same PC in the end playing the same game. It may better with some graphics, but slow PCs aren't good with the new HLE and LLE.
