The difference between 720p and 1080p isn't as great as you think.
Refresh rate would probably be heaps better (but I really don't know, it's not my thing) so I guess that's where you'd see the big difference.
If we were talking about watching a Blu-ray movie, 720p vs 1080p is a difference.
And for games with heaps of visual mods (like Skyrim) it's pretty mind blowing how different they can look on PC at really high resolutions.
I mean really different, not just noticeable.
