Default Issue w/ playing EBOOT converted from psx .bin

About a few weeks ago, a translator group for Tales of Phantasia (PSX) released a translation patch. While that patch got beat by another translation group and an official translation, it's still a nice patch for the psx version.
It has a couple perks over the old translated PSX version that's already available here on the site.

I applied the patch to a vanilla jp copy, played it in epsxe, it works just fine. No issues there.
When I tried converting it to an EBOOT so I could play it on the psp, I couldn't get the game to run at all. I either get a black screen or an error that the game could not be run.

One problem there is that the vanilla jp copy doesn't want to properly play as an eboot in the first place. I was eventually able to get that copy to play (by using icetea instead of psx2psp), but not with the patch on.
I've tried different download sites for the pure jp copy, but I have a suspicion it's the same file that got spread around.

I know it's not the game itself that cannot be played on PSP, afterall I got the old translated copy to run fine, aside from one slight issue that sometimes makes it freeze.

Does anyone know of any potential solutions, aside from just running the game on epsxe? I don't know if I want to bring this up to the translator's group because they are not found of people using copied versions.
The best solution would be for someone to do a better conversion and release an eboot here, but I think that would be too much to ask for.

    Edit:

If it's needed, the patch is in .xdelta and is found here: http://www.tales-cless.org/?page=tales

Have you tried using different codes like slps-01770 while converting?

Yeah, I tried that but it didn't make any difference.

and your PSP? CFW? Have you try convert it using psx2psp?

Haven't tried this patch yet, I will see to it after I got myself another clean copy of the game.

After reading around, I've gotten advice that the patch itself does something and that you need a 4.01 popsloader for the game to work. Something to do with the psx logo coming up?

I don't know anything about popsloader (since I never used it before) but once I can figure out that program, I can then test that theory.
It's definitely the patch though, it's not the game files I'm using and it's not the programs I'm using (tried psx2psp and icetea).

    I have a psp 1001 with 6.60 btw.

    Edit:

Got the hang of popsloader, now to figure out which one will make it work. 4.01 apparently didn't work.

I hate to double post, but I got it to work.

For reference, I am using the popsloader from here: http://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-to-...-c-cfw.301579/

After I installed that, I followed this post:

That means downloading from a different website? Are there any confirmed-to-be-working variants that you know of?

    EDIT:
    Downloaded this: http://dl.qj.net/psp/homebrew-applic...oader-v4d.html

and pasted the two prx files from the dist folder to my seplugin folder. Now it works! Thank you for your help, I am now one happy fan!
and ran the game in 3.71

    It works!

    Edit:

    It works with 4.01 too
