I found proffesional to be easier alone, I found the enemies focused more on you than Sheva. I had to have a friend join in on splitscreen to help me out with Veteran as they kept killing her way to easily abck when I had it on the 360.

I've only noticed a framerate drop on a few games, but when it happens it's a huge pain in the ass.

I got the playing by myself. Sheva never really gave me any troubles -- she always held her own. Then again, I basically just gave her a rifle and let her peg people from a distance while I ran into the fray. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.
