About PS3s, they actually emulate PS1 games from the disc or some shit. I'm not fully sure how it works but I've had some discs work in my ps3 that no ps1 or ps2 would read and I have a ps2 with a really strong laser. Also with the fat ps3s overheating is an issue, so just a heads up there.
