Shadow Hearts: Koudelka -- a remake and rebranding of the original PSX game featuring HD graphics, extended scenes, and remixed pacing (where applicable), and of course the judgement ring and combat system from FTNW.

"Shadow Hearts: Daemonium Luctus" -- a remake/rebranding of Yuri and Alice's first adventure - featuring the above from the Koudelka remake. The subtitle is my cheap attempt to Latinize the phrase "sorrow of the demon" since its rather appropriate considering everything poor Yuri has to endure ...

"Shadow Hearts: Deamonium Salus" -- a remake/rebranding of Covenent with the above features from the previous remakes and an alternate ending (I'm not a fan of predestination paradoxes unless they're done right ala Legacy of Kain)

"Shadow Hearts: Novus Ordo Profanus" -- a remake/rebranding of "From The New World" with new opening scenes and remixed pacing. The biggest flaw with the original FTNW is it waits until the last 4 to 8 hours a gameplay before making you give a damn about the characters by revealing the connection between Johnny, Lady, Shania, Malice, etc. The pacing of the game is outright terrible. Not too mention they screwed up Mao's voice-acting in the localization. She should have a Mae West type of voice; on the same level as a female fence Garrett visits in Thief 3. Deep, husky, sultry voice yet still feminine. Also, this remake would replace Frank entirely with Blanca. His sidequest involves Blanca approaching Lenny with a photo of people dear to him in his mouth and whining hopefully. Lenny, recognizing those in the photo, balks at the notion of endangering Johnny to finding them ... but Johnny overhears and guilt-trips Lenny. The photo is a picture of an all too familiar beach Lenny knows quite well with Blanca surrounded by Yuri, Kurando, and Karin. During the sidequest, Johnny discovers that Kurando is the only survivor of the three in the picture, and he married the Russian princess who snapped it. The "good" and "bad" endings contain Johnny's gift from mother Russia - a big fluffy wolf-chow mix named Yuri ...

Good call here. I never did get particularly far in this game (never had the patience for it, ala Vagrant Story), but from what I remember it definitely could have been great had they worked out the pacing issues.
"I think that the problem with this video is it is highly derivative of many popular bands within the genre. Although when viewed on its own merits, it does have a deeper groove. However what it has in groove, it lacks in originality. One can't help but be reminded of such bands as Pearl Jam, White Zombie, Suicidal Tendencies and other bands that bear the mantle of so called "Alternative Rock". One is even reminded of Lorie Anderson when she wore curlers. Hehehmhm! This video speaks less to the heart and more to the sphincter. In closing, I think Korn would do well to learn more from -"

I think something that really needs a complete remake is Actraiser for the SNES. A new version of that with good action gameplay and awesome simulation/god management would be amazing.

Oddly enough, I bought Vagrant Story on release day, and pumped a good 80+ hours into it. Never did a second play-thru, though. Then last year, I wanted to remember why I never gave the game a second run. Three hours into it, it hit me like a brick wall the game is infamous for foisting on you: not having enough parts to customize a weapon that would damage the current stream of enemies. Solution? Backtrack and grind. When you're in your mid twenties with all kinds of time to burn? Tolerable. When you're closer to 40 than you are to 30? Sorry "Vagant Story", but youaretheveekustlink ... g'bye.

Vagrant Story needs a reboot so badly. I know most people thinks its a classic that shouldn't be messed with but I beg to differ. Square put all their experience with the FF series and tried to make something genuinely new. Everything from the dark dungeon crawling, chain attack linking, and weapon customization just emanated originality. It is my favorite rpg on the PS1 hands down. The story was actually decently good about an 8/10 but its game play and atmosphere is where it really shined. The graphics at the time push the PS1 to the max and could you imagine what the PS3 and capable game developers could crank out. FF XII and FF Tactics took place in the same universe and I love the gritty vibrant atmosphere of all those games. If one Square Enix could be remade other than Xenogears this would be it!
