    They're probably listening.
    Responding is a different matter.

Well, no, they're NOT listening. For instance, I'm trying to help my dad remove some malware from his PC and he doesn't listen to ANYTHING I say. Seems that big talk we had yesterday was for nothing.

If the computer is still working (even if only in a semi-retarded way) maybe he just doesn't care?
Some people are like that...with computers, cars and lots of things.

They only do something about it if it stops working completely.

Well at least you tried. If he chooses to ignore your advice that's his decision.

Don't sweat the little things like this man. Just brush it off accept the fact that he's gonna do what he wants, it's a lot less stressful than . And when the shit hits the fan later on down the road and he ends up having to take it in (and spend $ ) you can sneak in a little "I told ya so..." But don't be a dick when you say it (That will probably make him less receptive to your advice), just be calm and state it as if you where stating a fact. Like 1+1=2.

My father doesn't believe in taking things to professionals. He'd rather fix it himself - which usually ends up breaking it beyond repair.

That's how my last computer broke down...

Just got called in to work on my day off. Not sure if want, but I ended up taking the shift anyway.
