    Default Why so Complicated?

I downloaded a Playstation rom containing lots of .ape files. So I saw this guide. I didn't even bother reading it in detail. It told me to install five tools. Five! I don't even count 7zip, because everyone must already have a file archiver. I don't like installing new software too often and now I am told to install five tools just to play a playstation game? Call me an ungrateful jerk for complaining for getting to play a game for free, but isn't it a lot simpler for the original uploader to just get the cd and create a single img file rather than splitting it to many small pieces that later need to be put back together anyway? So is that guide the only way to turn all these files into a single one? I am trying to play on FPse.

Your first mistake was not reading the thread mate, just assuming you needed everything in it. To start if you are only emulating it then you obviously don't need the ImgBurn.

    So,

    What are you downloading?

    Where did you get it?

What exactly is included in your download?

Start to finish, don't fret, we'll get through this together.

Because everyone's internet connection is not very fast. Cd's are compressed.

I need ecm tools to turn the .ecm file into a .bin one. I need Monkey's Audio to turn the .ape files into .wav ones. I need Cue's and Sbi's because there is no .cue, then daemon tools to mount it and ImgBurn to create a .img file. Apparently I need everything.

Got it from emuparadise. It's a .rar file with the game folder inside, which has a bunch of .ape files and a .7z file with a .bin.ecm inside.

    What game are you downloading?

Might be easiest to just post the link.

Downloading it now I'll get back to you soon. Never had this issue with psx ISO's before so I need to look at it myself. Hopefully someone gets back to you before I do.

My first question is, why are you using the [E] version rather than the [U] version? I generally recommend the [U] version since the european ones sometimes need extra patches to play them.

In any case I took a look at the copy you're having issues with and yeah, I've never seen a game split up that way either. I took the liberty of downloading and checking the [U] version however, and it comes as a .ccd/.img/.sub combo (perfectly easy to use), so I'm going to save you the trouble of trying to figure the other copy out and link you to this one

Had to tinyurl the link to keep the parsing on this board from borking it, it's an emuparadise link though.

One can't help but be reminded of such bands as Pearl Jam, White Zombie, Suicidal Tendencies and other bands that bear the mantle of so called "Alternative Rock". I do it because I am from Europe and I have a PAL BIOS. I expect PAL games to run better or have less glitches.

Actually AFAIK the bios used doesn't affect what region games you can play; you should be able to play any regions games on any regions BIOS. I'd still recommend using the US version of games over the EU versions of games due to the patching deal, unless you read reports for a specific game working better with the EU version.

EMC+APE? Maybe you've just downloaded one of the redump project isos (http://redump.org/). Those isos are "perfect" dumps of CDs (PSX isos use bad tracks as protection, so, each game is dumped from 2 different "original media" and compared).

You can decompress them with ecm-tools. Redump project also have all the cue files and ctrlmame dats.

I checked that specific download and you could play it without music (I hate that ape stuff, and to be honest it's not that widely used anymore if ever. And I never even bothered with it before) and it ran fine for me with epsxe 1.7 - without music. Sound effects worked though. I'm looking right now for a better iso/bin and if I find one I'll upload it!!!!

The end file was only like 150mb, there was a 7zip file after the initial extraction that you could use unecm on and delete everything else and it seemed to play fine but once again without music and not having to use a bunch of programs. Still looking for a complete game though and if I find it I'll upload and post for a more ease of use!!!!

EDIT: Here's an IMG I found and uploaded here to EP and the here's the LINK didn't really play but it started fine. Maybe try loading it with a virtual drive? Once again music issue, as I didn't spend any real time with it (it started I picked a character and did a couple hits that's all) but at least it's just one file basically - img with cue.

I also downlaoded the [E] version of Gekido, it was also like this, but was far from perfect, when my character hits he makes sounds as if he is Super Mario collecting coins. So far only PAL games are being uploaded like this. I tried installing the tools and made a .bin file to test it on my phone and it thought DoA [E] was a music CD, only without any music in it. It ran kind of fine on epsxe. Anyway, PAL games seem to be more buggy in general, with the exception of Legend of Dragoon, but that game wasn't split in .ape files, it was normal like a [U] game.

    1) Download and extract packiso (get the 4.0 version here: http://www.mediafire.com/?mywiiyzmdtt)
    2) Extract the game *.ape e *ecm files inside a "new directory".
    3) drag and drop the "new directory" over unpakkiso.exe (it decompress the ape files to bin)
    4) drag and drop the ecm file over unecm.exe

Now you need only a cue file. You can donwload from redump org, then open with a text editor and check/change the tracks name.
For example if you have "TRACK 1.bin" and the cue is:
FILE "Gekido - Urban Fighters (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It) (Track 1).bin" BINARY
    TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00

    change to:
    FILE "TRACK 1.bin" BINARY
    TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00

(the faster way is use ctrlmame and psx redump dat and rebuild the game+cue)

Run the emulator and load the cue file. Now you've audio tracks.

Here the redump CUE files for european version of DoA e Gekido.

The bugs are the same. I checked redump.org and since it says that the EU Gekido is a prefect copy, then they must be talking about another rom. It's mentioned in their forums that the website doesn't store any roms and it's simply a database. Then the whole website says that these roms simply exist somewhere, maybe not even on the Internet. I tried copying the exact name of the .cue file found there and it only leads me to nitroroms.com, from which I get errors when trying to download and on the second try it tells me that I've reached my limit, tried from another computer and another internet connection and it tells me that I've reached the limit without even downloading anything.
