    Lightbulb What/who inspires you?

We all have people that we look up to. People that made us see the world differently, or maybe they make you want to be a better person. These people have helped to shape who you are. They can be anyone, a family member, a friend, a teacher etc. Please keep the discussion civil, and try to be polite.
    My List:
    Jane Austen
    Dorothy Parker
    Margaret Sanger
    Noam Chomsky
    Howard Zinn
    Emma Goldman
    Eleanor Roosevelt
    My mom and grandmother
    Janis Joplin
    Gandhi
    Buddha
    Oscar Wilde
Some of these are cliche, I know.

    Gosh.....
    Spoiler warning:
I would say a few members of my family, like my eldest brother, my uncles, and my parents. and then there's the other things. I would say I was inspired by a whole bunch of African-American rights leaders (I won't list because hell if there ain't 1000 lists just like mine floating on the internet) and just books, mostly ones that delves into philosophical matters.

People like Neil deGrasse Tyson, Richard Dawkins, James Randi and Derren Brown. And the late Carl Sagan, obviously. I'm a skeptic myself and greatly respect science's desire to want to learn about the world and figure out how things work instead of believing in religious teachings and accepting those without ever asking questions. The workings of the universe are too complex and beautiful to be just chalked up to a simple "well, God(s) did it", in my opinion. Now, I don't want to step on any toes, nor do I want to argue about this. If you believe in certain things, that's totally fine. It's your right and I'm not gonna take it away from you. It's just that, to me, science's claim of "we don't have all the answers, but we're working on it with all our might" is much more appealing than "it's all in the [insert holy book of choice], just believe in that".

Sorry if this offends anyone (wasn't my intention), but this is just how I feel.

My late grandmother although she never had much in life and she helped everyone she could, even if it was the last money or food she had, she could not turn no one down that ask for help. That inspired me to do the same.

    irl? uh... i dunno.

from videogames? sonic the hedgehog for 1.

i might get complaints for this but this suddenly reminds me of something i'm not too fond of hearing about the military in general. fictional maybe but i see the things shown in videogames as real heroics, whereas those people in the military who end up being called heoes as just soldiers which i, in some ways, simply see as legal killers becuase i.e. they are. because of that opinion, i could care less about the irl militaries of this planet as its just another means for humans to kill humans (yet soldiers don't get punished for it so i.e. its legal killing).
