Psh, clearly not very old. The precursors to MMOs were MUDs. Multi-User Dungeons. They were text adventures where hundreds of people were playing at once.

Also, I bet you think Dwarf Fortress is bad because it has no graphics. When in reality, your computer couldn't run it if it had graphics.

But on a more helpful note, Guild Wars 2 is coming out soon. One time payment rather than pay to play. Sure, it's not free, but 60 bucks once for an MMO isn't bad.

Ragnarok Online is free to play without private servers now. The microtransactioning for major features is a bit lame, but what can you do?

I know a couple people playing Elsword, but meh. Same with Dragon Nest. I've heard the Vindictus character creator is awesome, gameplay is cool, but I don't recall what they said was lacking in it.

Secret World was free to play for the past weekend. Might still be, but I doubt it. It's buy-to-own, pay-to-play, same as WoW. The combat wasn't quite as fluid as WoW, the attacks seemed a little lackluster overall, and the questing limitations annoyed me, but the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. It's worth taking a look at if they have some kind of free trial thing.

Anyway, there are a few choices to consider. And with that, I HIDE.

It happens to be one of my favourite games.
I've actually managed to kill an entire kingdom once in Adventurer mode.
And at the moment one of the adventurers has killed 10 Dragons already.
