Does making an LP require much work? I'm sort of lazy, but I'm thinking about slapping a contra LP on TGV for no apparent reason.

It depends.
Going over the whole game mechanics and its strengths and weaknesses is good, but then you need something funny. (And Lots of ranting about pointless details )
So if you can't crack a successful joke, don't make a LP

It's not a dumb question.
Sometimes it is better, so you can write the jokes in later.
But sometimes, you just want the audience to know what you been through so just talking while playing is good.
