@Sword: Because Microsoft was making HDDVD to compete with Blu-ray. They lost pretty bad obvs.

@blue: Usually the blu-ray is cheaper anyway (I guess because people don't want to break up their mostly DVD collection) and in the case of Season 2 the only official US release so far is a combo pack with blu and dvd.

Thanks for that clarification about the US release. I watched both seasons on the net, but I do understand why people would want to own it as well and not just for better quality. Really in the end hddvd bluray makes no difference to me, but it does matter in memory capacity I guess. :/

I could walk into a used store that sells movies and such and not find a single HDDVD. I don't know how long they were in production but I can barely even see traces of their existence anymore.

Yeah I'm not a quality whore by any means. In the case of the first Spice and Wolf season the blu-ray is cheaper lol.

I think the only other blu-ray set for anime I have is the full Tsubasa set. 7 blu-ray discs for 52 episodes and a movie isn't too bad.
