Merry, you got an PS1 emulator, there's a spiritual sequel to Chrono Trigger, called Chrono Cross.
It's pretty good, an original storyline, and no shoe-horned in characters from the past.

See, they have never made a true faithful sequel to a great franchise, Final Fantasy to be exact.
Fans are annoyed at the lack of creativity, especially the time travel plots.
Final Fantasy 1, 8, and 13-2 all have time travel plots, I may have missed some, but it's annoying.
