    VI. Double hands down.

You had a ruthless main antagonist who didn't give two craps about anything and would kill for no reason, interesting and fleshed out characters, and a ton of cool weapons and items. Game may be a bit too easy, but I think it was dominant over the previous 5 and set a bar. Plus, Setzer + Fixed Dice + Master Scroll/Offering = Domination. Only downsides I believe are it's difficulty and overworld.

Final Fantasy XIII is literally a hallway. There is ONE chapter with an open area and that's all. I'm not trying to discourage you from playing it, In fact a lot of people loved it, I'm just trying to prepare you for it. I figure if you know what to expect going into it, you'll get more enjoyment out of it.

Anyway, aww the FF series, my personal favorite RPG series, I have played all of the main, non MMO games Except XIII-2, and that's just a matter of time. I've loved the series to death, and though I've never admitted it before I did get VERY mild enjoyment out of XIII. I still think it's the weakest in the series and had MANY flaws, but hey, I HAVE played worse games, it just sucks that they had to make FFXIII a final fantasy game at all. What I mean by this is because I'm a stuck up, longtime FF fan, I probably wouldn't have been so butt hurt about the game being so 'different' if it wasn't called 'Final Fantasy'. Weird I know but whatever, at least I'm willing to admit that I'm flawed xP lol.

Here is my FF list from favorite to least favorite, though my opinion changes depending on my mood this is a roughly accurate order.

    1 ) Final Fantasy IV

2 ) Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition

    3 ) Final Fantasy X

    4 ) Final Fantasy VI

    5 ) Final Fantasy IX

6 ) Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

    7 ) Final Fantasy XII

    8 ) Final Fantasy VII

    9 ) Final Fantasy V

    10 ) Final Fantasy III

11 ) Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings

12 )Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

    13 ) Final Fantasy VIII

14 ) Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII

    15 ) Final Fantasy X-2

16 ) Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition

    17 ) Final Fantasy XIII

I don't really know where I'd put Tactics and Tactics advance on the list, I really liked them both. They'd probably be somewhere in the top ten, but FFTA would be above FFTWotL mostly because of Nostalgia. I've yet to beat FFTA2 though.

Final Fantasy VIII hands down for the breathtaking love story...no homo. Also the Gun Blade is the coolest weapon, and the GF system was awesome. JUST GIVE SQUALL A CHANCE!

I adore your pleasant conversations and viewpoints.

@ShadowofCreations Impressive list, you definitely know your FF games. I'm surprised you really see FFTA as better than the original or (epic) remake FFTWotL, but nostalgia does play a big factor in how you like games I guess.

i liked ff13 somewhat (bought a copy off of amazon for ten bucks a while back), i have to say though i think they coulda done better with some of the bosses. final fantasy x has to be my favorite (first ff i played and first ps2 game i played if that says anything). i havnt really played any of the ps1 versions, i am not good with the abt thingy and oddly enough i liked ffx-2 even though it had it. wierd.

Off of recent memory, it would have to be FFXII.

The story fell apart towards the end but the gameplay mechanic was a glorious breathe of fresh air. Once you got used to the gambit system, it left you free to explore the huge environments on offer without the tedious button mashing in battle.

Anyone who enjoyed it should track down a copy of the International version.
