Managed to get it up to 1.1GB free by extending the C drive over the useless recovery partition. Temporary fix.

I've spent 3 days trying to get a netbook the way I want it. Had XP, but it was screwed up beyond repair. Can't get it to go into the recovery partition by the recommended keypresses. So, I grabbed Win7 Starter. Turns out it is something called Starter-N and I can't get it activated. Then I put Win7 Ultimate on it, knowing I probably shouldn't. Slow as hell. I found a good copy of 7 Starter and installed. It's fast enough and activated, but out of the 8GB on the HD, I have .99GB free

I may have to go with Tiny XP. I don't need a lot of room, but having less than 1GB seems to me a little crazy. 87% of the drive is the OS?

You could get it a hard disk for peanuts i would a imagine, 10 Gb seems a bit small for a modern computer does it use ssd or something

Found a place where I can get a 320GB HD and 1GB SODIMM for around $70.

I might just do that.

Yeah, you really need to max out the ram and get the largest HDD you can that's still cheap.

Xp is great, it doesn't get many updates because it so good LOL, i don't think I'll personally upgrade to win7/8/9 when XP loses support based on the fact it for fills my needs so whats the point in upgrading.
