Bad news doods. ACTA is one step closer to being law. The European Union signed it. However, until it is ratified by the European Parliament, the signatures are not legally binding. This will happen in three key stages, with the final one (the final vote in Plenary) taking place on 12th, 13th or 14th June (though all dates for the key stages may be changed). This means there is still time. Obama is also expected to sign it too.

If he does then I hope the Supreme Court will shoot it down. First of all ACTA isn't a treaty. Second its a bill that originates from outside of the US. Third, as seen with Megaupload and certain other sites, ACTA and the rest aren't needed.

What pisses me of is that Obama seems to be more worried about protecting his money flow from the entertainment industry instead of trying to prevent spies from hacking government databases and stealing top secret information. The mess from WikiLeaks shows how screwed up the government's priorities are when it comes to the Internet. They are more worried about some kind of copyright violations rather than protecting top secret information.

Wikileaks may be damaging, but the theft of really important information has always been happening.
The JSF program is a fair enough example.
Although afaik only "alleged Chinese espionage", the Chinese have their own similar program now........and I bet it hasn't cost them anywhere near as much in time or money

But yeah, decision makers need to get their priorities right.
Child molesters for example......do they really get harsh enough sentences?

I see nothing wrong with the idea of prosecuting individuals that have profited so obviously and massively from breaking laws.........but not everybody should suffer as a result imo.

Please, guys, try to post things once instead of repeating them in both threads, I'm pretty sure we all read both of them.

Originally one was supposed to be the place to discuss the new anti-piracy regulations, the other to inform about the state of the different upload services, if we stick to those premises both can remain open. But we have to make sure where to post what.

Err, it's not a treaty? Since when did that change?

No, in other words, it is in fact a treaty agreement. It is not at all a bill, foreign or otherwise, and if ratified by the U.S. Senate and President both, it would not in itself become law, though laws would be passed to bring United States law into accord with it. I'm also not sure how bringing this up is relevant at all.

Yeah, that's been greenlit since Harper got his majority.... The question is are they going to enforce anything, they can't fit every pirate in prison. And if they sue me for 100 million dollars, I'll throw molotov cocktails at the law courts
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here
