I've been told that I can't remove hands from the wheel ever. I'm okay with the instructor telling me things I'll never do when I'm driving on my own, because I'm only learning their way to get my license.

For a first lesson I had the car up to 30MPH and used 3rd gear.

Considering I've not got a feel for steering OR the pedals yet, I'm pretty happy with that.
