Recently finished Mawaru Penguindrum, my body wasn't ready.
Maybe I'm going to watch some Gundam OVA.

Expect QUALITY. It's rather meh. It would have been way better had they decided to continue on and cover the Shadowlands and Dragons arcs from the novels because the ending was unsatisfying after having read the books. Although one of the very good things about it, third opening is amazing.
As for me; finished rewatching Dancougar Nova. Seriously. It needed 10 more episodes at least. I wanted to see Max God Beast Mode but alas, no Max God Beast.![]()
Bodacious Space Pirates.
No, that was a lie, though I might watch it depending on how good the sci-fi aspects are; I heard its actually pretty fanservice-light, though the "high schoolers become pirates" thing seems a little...typical. Still watching Persona 4 as its released.
I lol'd at the title.
Have you watched some of the older sci-fi anime Mistral? That is some of the best imho.
Actually, I keep hearing it's rather good, and that the name's actually completely non-indicative. As I mentioned, though, that was a joke; I haven't watched it yet, so I wouldn't say to watch or avoid. It's new, though, so it's likely better to at least wait unless you don't mind speedsubs.
Depends on the anime, actually. Legend of Galactic Heroes (which I know is not "older" beyond in style) and Irresponsible Captain Tylor (early 90s) are probably the only two that I would consider both older and sci-fi that I enjoyed; being late-90s, Lain is a borderline case, as are Outlaw Star (yes, funny; it was one of my early ones) and Cowboy Bebop. If one includes mecha in that classification, I'd think to include 08th MS Team (mid-90s) and Patlabor (late 80s). I think that actually, the CGI revolution is what allowed for really good, but fringe-audience shows to be made on the cheap, where costs would have otherwise been prohibitive before. That is to say, shows like Planetes, say, or Dennou Coil (OK, which was not aimed at a fringe audience at all). A lot of the half-season shows that came out of this and shifts in marketing stances by TV studios are also pretty good for what would normally be expected of them, including things like Soukou no Strain (that really...weird halfway episode aside) and Starship Operators, for instance. I mean, I do like the older style, but it's so expensive, comparatively speaking, and there are certain aspects in which more modern styles can be preferable (for instance, Madoka Magica would have lost a decent bit of its impact if it had been in a style like Escaflowne's 80s shoujo rather than puni-plush, because the entire disconnect between art and plot would have been sharply diminished).

I think LOGH may just be the best anime ever for many reasons including the scope of the plot, the character development and how it will also focus on every day people outside of the mcs.
Yeah I don't know, mecha is sci-fi but to me it's not the same. I've seen all the old mecha.
I was mostly referring to LOGH, Space Battleship Yamato and Space Pirate Captain Harlock. You mentioned some good stuff all around tho. ^^
Tytania is newer but pretty good I think.

IT IS GOOD. I own the first five novels so I can say without a doubt that it's awesome as an adaption so far. The only major issue I personally have is some of the character redesigns. It's definitely not getting love in Japan as it's more ship and heavy sci-fi fanservice then traditional fanservice. It might actually do well in North America if aired on TV to be honest. One of my favorite scenes in the novels, is actually going to be coming up very soon. About episode 5-ish if they keep up the pace they're going.
I refuse to call it "Bodacious" Space Pirates though. It's either Miniskirt Space Pirates or simply Space Pirates. The original title was awesome, I don't see why they changed it though.
An easy way to summarize it would be Outlaw Star + Captain Harlock + Internet Rule 63.
Persona The Animation Episode 15, Zero no Tsukaima F Episode 03 and Another Episode 03 by Commie.

Remember how I told you about that show, and you didn't want to watch it at first?![]()
