Any special reason why all the Gamecube ISO's are an easy single download while the PS2 ISO's are a pain in the ass with several annoying parts that must be downloaded though all kinds of stupid file hosts? I guess it's just one of those things, but I 'd like to know what happened there.

Mostly, it's size. Most Cube games are ripped down to make them small, compared to other console rips. So, the downloads tend to be one or two links. Other console downloads can't be ripped as much or at all, so they require more links to download.

The reason why they separate them game into parts is caused by many factors, but here are 2 of what I think are the most common:
    1. Limited upload size on hosted website
    2. Faster to upload when uploading many different smaller sizes at once.

When ripping a PS2 game and compressing it, the game is still pretty big. While ripped GameCube games when compressed, the compression is much more effective and file sizes are smaller.

EDIT: Sprung beat me to it =P

different file host is just a matter of the uploaders preference.

the two above answers are correct on your question of multiple downloads, though I would like to add while some may have the ability to upload one file to any given host we don't because the free downloaders from said host are capped to 200MB download sizes basically making it impossible to get a PS2 game unless you want to pay for a premium account on the hosting site.

    Because we hate you.
Also, the multiple parts thing, which others have already talked about, actually makes downloads faster if there is interchangeable links, and you use a download manager, which makes it 100x easier.

Of course, you've all forgotten to mention that it's much also easier (read: faster) to re-download a much smaller piece of a file, should something go wrong, than it is to re-download the entirety of a 4GB+ file.

Eh. It's actually not easier. You have to mess with timers and captcha with those hosts. Although I'm technically complaining, I'm really not. It's great to get free game files, but it's just too much work and has stopped me from downloaded as many games as I'd like to because it's just too much of a hassle.

Merging the parts together isn't much of a hassle if you know what your doing. You just have to take the time to figure out how to and get used to it ;]

It's not the merging, it's the downloading. The last time I downloaded a game it had 6 parts, that means I'm waiting and waiting and have 6 Firefox windows open trying to find and start each download. Then if you have one download going with a certain host, you have to wait till it's done to start another, it's just a real pain in the ass. Not to shit on the great downloads you guys provide, it's just a mess to gather the files from these hosts.

below helps with that as well one window to rule them all plus multi part downloading at the same time.

I think I've made my point clear for what it's worth, I'll stop bitching about it now. Thanks again.

I think your point has been countered by Nemesis suggestion of a download manager and by me giving you direct links to the programs webpages so you do that.

I'm not interested in clogging my PC up with some download manager. I'll just deal with it or not download.
