What is the speed of smell?
The olfactory nerve, a large sensory nerve at the top of the inside of the nose, has receptors sensitive to chemicals in the air (the "smells" we perceive), and these sensations are registered in the frontal lobe of the brain. The time it takes to smell a chemical in the air is the time the chemical takes to travel in air to our nose, and for the nerve impulse to travel to the brain (milliseconds), so smells are almost instantaneous. There is also a connection between the frontal lobe and the part of the brain responsible for memory, so distinctive smells we have experienced often trigger memories.
OR
The speed of smell is the length of time it takes to cast a buck-passing glance at the bloke standing beside you in the lift
Am I still late for that "speed-of-smell-Internet" question?
Because, depending on what value such Internet would be,
I may be in that category...
So, what would be really an Internet at the "speed of smell"?
(Just for curiosity)
Or, better: An Internet at the speed of smell would download
a file at how many kbps?
...
(Now I am wondering what the "real speed of smell" would be...)
3rd time's a charm.
