I guess I'd be the same there actually. maybe wherever the game was tedious (random battles, for example) maybe do something different there. I'm idealizing everything of course... I don't think I dig remakes at all. I still have all these games. I'd be lying though, if I said I don't become interested when I see the characters/scenery redone and made all pretty-like.

It feels like since Square got a lot of intention for their lush environments etc, they've made it the main focus and the stories have gone to the pooper (I'm thinking Final Fantasy here).

This is in another direction but I loved a game called Final Fantasy Adventure (on gameboy, the game that comes before Secret of Mana). It was a very basic story/script but they remade it for Gameboy Advance. They gave it graphics like Secret of Mana (alright I guess.. it did look tasty), reworked the soundtrack and made the script a bit more engaging. However, they also made the script more hip to appeal to a younger crowd (eg. now everyone has an attitude). I don't know where I'm going with this but I don't think I've played a remake that I enjoyed - it barely contains the essence of the original and... arg! by all means they should just milk it for all it's worth. They need their bread money...
