    I'm totally thinking of getting a newer laptop with a HDMI Out so i can playback movies from the laptop to our 1080p tv

    I wish my laptop had HDMI out. Or, for a TV with a working VGA port. Either would be nice.

    Hasnt your laptop got S-Video out in it at least? and your TV an S-Video in?

    No, my laptop is pretty modern. No S-Video. Just VGA.

    It's a good TV, only problem is with Alan Wake. The fog is blocky, but I used it as a PC monitor and it's very good. and all game I've tried have been fine.

    Rofl cant be that modern then my 10 year old Dell has VGA out and S-Video out

    But if it's a big brand it can't hurt.
    You may find something that'll give you some aspect options.........maybe just for that series of screens

    That's my point, modern laptops don't have S video. They have VGA/HDMI. S video is ancient, just like your 10 year old Dell.

    No drivers though.

    My folks have 2 HP's.......one is probably 2004 or something, the other is newer........they both only have vga.

    I remember seeing S-video on laptops many years ago
