I remember when I first gave my son a dill pickle just after his first birthday. He was not impressed.
If I remember right, he ended up putting it on my plate, then picking it up and taking it to my dad's plate. Then picking it up and taking it to my mom's plate. And the cycle continued until I ended up eating it when he wasn't looking.
Sauerkraut was something else I got stuck into straight away.
It was Dad that always encouraged that kind of food........it came from his side of the family.
Spoiler warning:
There isn't actually "a German side of the family".......his parents had German (and later English) as their common language. His Dad was Polish and his Mother was Latvian.
But yeah, there's always been a lot of German type food on that side......and Dad can still speak ok German.
My Mother is Irish.
Confused yet?![]()
