Sure, keep telling yourself it isn't.

You'd be correct. But there's a lot of references to the previous administration of Rapture and such that are very relevant. For instance, there's a cult that worships the protagonist from the first game. And parts of their backstory is quite spoiler heavy as to why they worship him. Plenty of returning characters and things that don't really get explained since it assumes you're familiar with the setting too.

But you'll live. It's completely playable without the first. It's just that it's not quite as good plot wise as the first and kind of comes off as fan service for the people who enjoyed 1. If you haven't, you'd perhaps be less likely to get into it as much as someone who has.

I'm so terrible at it, it's ridiculous. I was terrible at the (S)NES games too. Never played them as arcade games.

On the other hand, does anyone really need to know the how's and why's of an underwater city when you can simply introduce people's faces to a giant drill?

    I'm unsure.

Yeah. I picked up the second one 'cause it was pretty cheap and they didn't have the first one, or Arkham Asylum. Both of which I wanted to try. Now I'm trying to decide if I should pop it in, or wait until I play the first one.

    Yes, yes we are.

Specifically whether or not it's advisable to play 2 before playing 1.

I'll let you have my copy of Arkham Asylum if you play it on my ID and plat it for me.
