BC has had the lowest minimum wage (and I'm pretty sure two of the most expensive cities to live in in the country -- Vancouver and Victoria) for a long time now. We were at $8 for the last six years or so, and just a couple of months ago they finally raised it to $8.75 -- which is still five cents an hour lower than the next lowest province, Alberta, who has had a minimum wage of $8.80 since 2009. Newfoundland and Ontario have two of the highest.
Also, Alberta doesn't pay HST/PST, just the 5% GST.
