I am not really learned on TV's and their options. I do need assistance, but I don't like salesmen.

You can always go off picture quality. A lot of features are standard. Short of asking for a remote to play with, you won't be able to know anything beyond what the card with the info for the TV says.

The problem is that crimes up for capital punishment generally have automatic appeals, even if it's not requested by either party. So it can take 20 years just to get one person executed. Those 20 years + the actual price of the execution (which really isn't cheap these days, since they almost exclusively use lethal injection now) are pretty big reasons why the penal system takes up more of Texas's annual budget than anything else.

3D needs to die. Not only because it's a stupid gimmick and the human brain can't properly process it, but because I bet my friend like $50 that 3D TVs wouldn't take off or become the new standard. I have a vested interest in this.

Here's what you do: Go in there, wait for one of those bastards to swoop in on you like a vulture, and tell him you're looking for a new TV. Listen to his spiel and smilingly nod and let him lead you around and try and upsell and whatever. The longer the better. Once he's done say yes that all looks good but I can only spend x amount and was thinking something more like this, and then show him the TV you actually want. Then when he starts trying to do his salesman bullshit seem uncertain and then say can you excuse me I need to call my wife. Then go pretend to talk to your wife and come back with a grim look on your face and cross your arms and say that the TV is actually out of your price range and you can't actually afford it right now, unless it was like 10%-15% off. And if he tells you that you can rent it/make small monthly payments kick him in the balls and then pee on him.

Hence why someone convicted of say... multiple counts of murder, should be executed within a week.

For gaming, I'd say 1080p, plasma, 2 mil:1 contrast ratio or higher, at least 900 lines of moving picture resolution (1080 would be better, but also more expensive), at least 2 HDMI in on the back, 1 VGA or DVI in, 1 composite video in, 2 component video in, 1 HDMI front, 1 composite video front, 1 USB front.

If you really don't feel like learning about TVs, just get a 3D TV. They'll generally have "good enough" specs simply because of the requirements of 3D anyways.

Plasma because the colors are more intense than LCD, and the refresh rate does make a difference.

For movies that are playing at a flat rate, or the games that top out at 60FPS ?
