I tend to play female characters in most games, yes. I go into a somewhat lengthy explanation in one of my Thief LP videos, but I enjoy seeing badass female characters in games who don't fall into the stereotypical damsel in distress category. Female Shepard - saving the galaxy like a boss. Female Grey Warden - slaying dragons like a boss. And so on.

As for the romancing menfolk part - I wasn't the biggest fan of the female characters of DA:O. Morrigan's somewhat of a bitch, and Leliana... eh, I just didn't like Leliana for some reason. Don't remember why.
