Don't need more anytime soon.
Seriously, we just figured out just what our current systems can do, I'd rather see more of that than have to go through new development pains again at the cost of a shit load of money.
Good.I have emotional problems. Let's talk about that.
Seriously though it seems like the creativity can't always keep up with the technological advancements and we do get some highly polished dirt clods. Luckily from what I have been reading even in this particular thread I don't appear to be the only one who is aware of that problem. I still maintain that the consoles are becoming so similar that asking someone to choose or purchase multiple units is like expecting the consumer to buy a second $500.00 DVD player just for a few exclusive movies. But for some reason whenever I bring up the idea of a standardized canon of software everyone takes up their torches, (led by Ray,) and chase me back into my haunted castle on the hillside...
No, that happens anyway.
16 if you count D-pad. Also start and select are useless as 'action buttons' (like shooting or jumping), same with L3/R3. Evolution of gamepads stopped on first Dual Shock. Adding two more buttons on the right side should be no problem even if you want keep exactly the same shape.
All of your comments make sense to me, they could either just boost the graphics a tiny bit, maybe change the controllers around, add more support for motion control technology and what have you. After all, isn't that all they have done over the past couple years anyway lol? But seriously, I have so many friends who are all like, "Dude! Look what my new PS3 can do!!" (he points at the screen where he is on the internet browsing the web).. I say in reply, "Dude!! I have been doing that on my PC since 1996!!, it's really not a big deal." Consoles were created originally for one sole purpose, to play games. Leave multimedia to the beast aka the PC and let consoles focus on one thing and one thing only, games!! Turk out

Make consoles be able to play Battefield 3 at full settings, I want a console with a built in surge protector/battery, can read 1st/3rd party controllers through USB/IR, Cloud storage, 20,000 layers of security that I don't have to think about ever, and an online store comparable to Steam (or just integrate Steam fully), friends lists/chat rooms able to gotten to in less than 5 seconds and 3 buttons no matter what I'm doing, backwards compatibility, comes with a pony, made out of diamonds, and gives free healthcare.
I figure something like smartphone integration would happen. You download an app for your phone and can use it as a controller or as a personal display or something.
I'm kind of surprised Nintendo didn't let you use a DS for that on the Wii, since it was already capable of hosting DS connections to it. I guess the wiimote was already gimmicky enough.
I hope that what was being aimed for with the NGP is still going to happen, like playing a game on console then continuing from the handheld if you are going to be away from your console for awhile. I think that virtual reality won't be perfected until at least 2 generations of home consoles from now, but I hope by then that you can wear a suit and helmet and walk/run in place to move and do other actions, and for lazy people still include the option to use a controller.
