Cheapest JTAGs will be launch systems (notoriously unreliable) that have been RRoD repaired poorly, so you'll be lucky to get around 10 hours out of it if that, before it goes.

Heh, my old 360 that was Jtaggable was a launch 360. The woman traded me for a shop-repaired one she bought. A few weeks later, I noticed that the facebook page she made for her business had a message from someone saying that the JTAG she sold them RROD'd almost right away.
Clearly, I made the right choice.
