Default User Review: Samsung S7350 The Good, The Bad and the very ugly

Got a little bored and was just messing with it so thought what the hell ill make a mini review of it.

    Good

+ Nice Large, Bright and Colorful Screen (240x400)
You could probably get away with watching a movie on this combined with its tilt sensor you can watch it in the 16:9 format of the screen very easy

    + Tilt Sensor
Makes showing people photo's and video's much easier when its on its side giving more screen space and no button interaction to do it. responds well no issues

    + GPS
Its A Grade GPS so not top of the line but seems to pick up great signal where even some tom toms have issues (outside our house a friend tried her GPS and couldn't get signal for a good 15 mins the phone however found 5 satellites in under 2 mins)

    + 3.5G Compatible
    Good Speed... but.. see bad

    + Bluetooth v2.1 A2DP
Bluetooth on the device connects well and works as expected decent speeds and reasonable range

+ 5MP Camera with flash, Focus and Face Detection
Good camera, face detection works well and makes decent photo's not good enough to make you throw your normal digital camera though

+ Takes up to 16GB Micro SDHC Cards
    Space shouldn't be an issue

    Bad

    + Battery Life
In this area the S7350 falls on its face, the LED Flash for the camera with only a few uses can take a whole bar (5 battery bars) off so flash has to be used sparingly

    + Lack of WLan
With all the other features it seems odd that Samsung didn't throw that in the mix also

+ Slider sounds a little less nice
When you slide the keyboard out it sounds like it rubs a little, compared to other Samsung slide phones

    + 3.5G Signal
Reception on 3.5G is beyond bad cant seem to get more than 3 bars of Signal with it outta 8 compared to my Sony Ericson J105 which normally gave me 4 or 5 outta 5. Standard GSM/GPRS Signal Reception is great however

    + Memory Card Initialization time
Depending on how much data you got on your card the initialization time can be as much as 3 mins, Not so good if you want to turn on and get to a file quick for some reason

    Ugly

    + Java Support
The Main problems here are 3 things.
1 It seems VERY picky what it will play if indeed it meets the other requirements I shall mention soon, and will throw back a Invalid format error when trying to play the said app / game otherwise
2 The Java app has to be 325KB or Below, 1KB Higher and it will give an out of memory error when trying to open the application, Amusingly the phone comes preloaded with Google Maps to use with its built in GPS that's 417KB
3 Awkward Screen Res for Java game, 240x400 is not common at all the closest common is 240x320 and for the most part this is fine and even sometimes if the programmer coded it well works well.. but when the programmer is lazy its horrible, There is also no Compatibility settings to help this.

    + Some Settings dont stick
If you Turn off and on the handset or enter mass storage mode, causing the memory card to have to be rechecked the default memory locations become reset to Phone rather than Memory Card every time

    End thoughts:

All in all its a great phone, but battery life is its main drawback Samsung should really have upped the battery itself as an 880mAh is a little low if your busy on it. a 1000mAh or near about would have worked out better (Sony Ericsson do a similar sized battery at 950mAh). Despite this I Still love the handset and expect to use it for quite some time

Ahh there's your problem right there!

Cuntishness asides, I really hope you didn't pay too much for that phone.

Your problem with the 3G signal could be a few things. a) need to upgrade the baseband (radio) firmware, b) Crap antenna connector or c) shit phone.

Also this idea of the LED flash draining the phone battery sounds weird. Your phone uses a 3.7V / 880mAh and using the LED flash drains it quickly? You can drive some most LED's at 3.7V directly & they'll only consume about 20 - 80mA.

Something sounds screwy in your power management system. Take that shit back in and get a refund.

Also I'd like to add that is the uglier screens I've seen in a long fucking time. That said, if it makes you happy...

I Did order another battery online from one of the few Non Original makers I trust, Since there batteries have not let me down yet, this one is also slightly higher capacity too 900mAh over stock 880mAh

Not much really that like 10 hours standby or something maybe 10 mins more call time. but ya it was a 3rd the cost of a Samsung Original Battery and its always better to go higher rather than lower. My battery should arrive from Germany in a few days

I still haven't bought a new-phangled phone-type camera thing. I guess I'm waiting to see what the next generation of them will be able to do.

...I don't have a joke about it or anything. I guess I really am waiting for one to do something that amazes me. A built in projector is cool, but...yeah. Still not ready to buy one yet.
