Oh God, this game.
Over the years, I have played Crystalis a handful of times. I had never actually beaten the game, because it's confusing as fuck. I felt the need to remedy this. So, armed with a walkthrough and my emulator, I gave it another whirl.
I still got confused as fuck. Hence why there are so many videos.
In all honesty, this is a fantastic game. One of the hidden gems for the NES, and loads of fun to play. It's an action-RPG (think Legend of Zelda meets Final Fantasy) released in 1990 by SNK. There are spells to aid you in your quest (mostly for healing and communication) and learning how to dodge enemy attacks. There's even a similar sword attack as the Legend of Zelda beam attack.
However, there is also lots of backtracking. Without any idea of where you are really going. Mazelike dungeons keep you turned around and confused as fuck. Everything starts to blend together and look the same... probably half of this LP is me running around in a circle, trying to figure out where the fuck to go!
Still, this is one of the few NES games where you can get more than an hour of entertainment out of it. I think my total run took just shy of 9 hours, which is practically unheard of for an NES game. Most of them can be beaten in an hour and a half, tops. And I'm sure this one can as well, if you know exactly where you are going and learn how to dodge enemy attacks.
Still, rage worthy as fuck.
