If you have a half-way decent computer then you should try Stalker: Shadows of Chernobyl. Stalker's a lot more non-linear though, like Fallout 3 but without most of the RPG elements. It's too bad it never came out on consoles.

I loved Metro 2033. It also looks pretty amazing on the PC. I thought it did the post-apoc atmoshpere really well, I was actually a lot more immersed compared to FO3.
