Default Ever wonder why things are the way they are?

The topic may sound confusing at first, but it's not too hard. See what creative things you can come up with that happen to be true, but are mind boggling at the same time. For example:

To this day I still dont know why keys and light sockets are the same width and size when metal and electricity are like the 2 most conductive things together.

    Tons of Electricity > Human = Injury/Death

Get it? Good. What you guys think?

I guess I'm kind of manic depressive, so for me, life either seems to be too perfect and too synchronized, or on other days, completely fucked up, as if I'm being singled out for cosmic abuse. But it's probably neither of those extremes, just my perception at any given time.

    1) Why do humans seek courtship (via getting married), while other animals just seek to repopulate, with no courtship (some animals do, but most don't)

    2) why are transgender humans looked down upon, while more than 50% of the animal kingdom is or can be transgendered. (true story bros. animal planet & the history channel say so)

    3) Why are people who play video games labeled as gamers, why is it a sub-culture? People who see movies are not Moviers or people who read books are not bookers. why is it only gamers?

Actually, most animals do court in one way or another. They're selective about their mates. Sure, they don't get married, but they don't have a civilization, either. The amount of time they stay with a single mate is pretty similar to ours, if you consider a) lifespan and b) every person you've ever "mated" with, regardless of marriage. Also, humans don't go into heat.

There's a movie subculture, a music subculture, and a book subculture. It's just that none of those have an easy transition to the "one who enjoys x form of entertainment" noun. Also, a single movie doesn't usually leave as much room for discussion as a single game does. Books are just less commonly experienced, and it's even less common that you'll find a group of people who have read the same books as you. But look at Twilight or Harry Potter. There were subcultures revolving around them before the movies came out. There are also comic book subcultures, and all kinds of others. You only think that the gamer subculture is unusual because you're looking at it subjectively.

It doesn't require any specific kind of skill to watch a movie or to read a book (other than the ability to read), where was playing games (for the most part) require reflexes and problem solving skills, among other things.
Or Cola's answer. Which is much better.

    Anyways.
Why do hot dogs come in packages of 6 to 10, but hot dog buns come in packages of 12?

Marketing coincidence turned conspiracy. That way, you have to buy more of both if you want to even them out.
Actually, we get the same number in both whenever we grill some. Of course, I dislike hot dogs, so that doesn't happen often.

Oh, here's one for English speakers. Why do you drive on parkways and park on driveways?

I wasn't sure if it was just a retarded Canadian thing or not.
In order to have an equal number of buns to hot dogs, most regular hot dogs come in packages of 10 ("jumbo" sizes range from 6 to 8, and "regular" are usually 10), so I would have to buy six packages of hot dogs and five packages of hot dog buns in order to have enough hot dogs to meet my hot dog buns demands.

    It's very frustrating.

Where I live (California), it all depends on brand. The brands I buy have the same amount of hot dogs/buns.

    It's pretty damn convenient.

On topic, the nature of human conversation has always boggled my mind.

I've heard of animals taking different male roles but I have never heard of transgender within the animal kingdom.

Honestly give it a generation and being Transgender might become more accepted.

It sometimes gets too cerebral for me, what with all the one-up-man-ship, and the know-it-alls who have to be right even when they don't have a clue what they're talking about. The discussion becomes a war and gaining the upper hand at any cost is the difference between life and death. With those types it's impossible to teach anything new because they'd rather be ignorant and appear correct than admit they are wrong.

Remembers news about gay penguins some time back... supposedly some took the role of females (going as far as pretending to breed inexisting eggs), since there were not a single female penguin in the same zoo...

Don' worry, it won't hurt... that much!

Some male species naturally take of the young in birds instead of the female. That false brooding thing you brought up I'm not sure if it counts as being transgender though.
