Seriously. He was just the scapegoat, the common enemy for all of us to rally against. It's not like no one will fill his place. Al Qaeda isn't an organization, it's a government hit list. They are terror suspects, not proven terrorists.
The real name of the organization was Taliban. This was something you could pick up on mainstream news, when they weren't busy trying to get us to believe that Al Qaeda had actual members. Back in WWII, the German leadership did the same thing. Instead of calling it AQ, they put stars on all the jewish people. Suddenly, the whole nation had a common enemy and a reason to go to war, kill anybody that was tagged, and make a big mess of the world in the name of big business. Anybody who had a company that made planes, vehicles, or munitions was suddenly very rich. In America, these businesses are run by the very same people who are controlling the government, even to the extent that the former CEO of Halliburton was the Vice President at the time of the attacks on 9/11. Cheneys stock portfolio exploded in value. Coincidentally, he was in a business meeting with Bin Ladens sons at the moment the planes hit, close enough to ground zero to raise a toast to their mutual success while they watched it all go down.
The Evil in the 9/11 attack was that it was done to boost profit and perpetuate the waste of our world. How many billions of gallons of fuel have been burned keeping fleets of ground vehicles, ships, and aircraft going for these past 10 years? Ask the ice at the north pole.

'Al Qaeda' doesn't really exist as an organisation per se. It's a term for a very loosely affiliated set of militant groups (AQ literally means 'the base', its about as common a term in Arab/Islamic political thought as 'workers party' is in communist circles) and it frequently gets applied to factions that are not in any way aligned with the original group of militants that was allied with the Taliban beyond having some shared enemies. There's no Al Qaeda Membership Committee. Anyone can claim AQ affiliation and, just as often, governments can claim people were part of AQ. The name alone doesn't mean a whole lot, given that even much of the top leadership of the so-called 'Al Qaeda in Iraq' fundamentalists had never even communicated with the Afghanis.
and yes, the government's been caught lying before about the supposed terrorist actions or allegiances of people they've killed.
