You can do that in any directory, or am I mistaking the question? If you want that in Ubuntu, Im clueless.

Nope. There's a built in shortcut for Ctrl+Alt+T to open a terminal window, it worked before, and now it's broken.
Also, any sort of graphics seem to choke my system, but I have the open source AMD drivers installed for my HD5770 =/
