So, I've acquired a cheap PC with a GeForce 8300 GS (entry level card). I have a spare GeForce 7800 GS 256MB from another old PC, does anyone know if the 7800 is a better card?

I gave up on trying to figure out how video cards work after video ram stopped being the deciding factor.

It will be better I think, but are they the same socket? PCI/PCI-E/AGP?

IIRC 8xxx series is PCI-E whereas 7xxx were AGP and PCI-E
