Thumbs up PC Acting Crazy All of a Sudden and how I fixed it.

PC Acting Crazy All of a Sudden.

Well long story short one morning I woke up and booted up my PC, as you do and started about my usual routine in the mornings when my PC started acting Crazy, Rebooting outta nowhere and for no reason. I was shocked but thought it a random Windows Bug, as they do occur sometimes.

Once I was back up and running it took only a few mins and my PC BSOD'd on me which left me going then trying to boot up it locked up and reset. then after that got into Windows again then proceeded to BSOD again before I could do much to start to Diagnose the Issue..

From there I tried to shut down the PC and Pop the side to verify nothing was loose and all cables was in securely which they was. So my next course of action was to boot it up and load the Bios Defaults. But my PC started to refuse to even Post. At this point I pulled the power cable from the Power Supply, Pressed the Power Button to use any remaining Power in the board then removed the CMOS Battery.

After Waiting about 2 mins I popped the battery back in and attached the power cable. The PC Still refused to boot or Post, I Then went to the next plan: Only have the MINIMUM to boot to start to find the problem item. after pulling all but my USB Keyboard and Mouse, 1 Dimm of Ram and my ATi HD4870 I tried to boot again, and it Posted! once I got into windows I Booted up my preferable Intel Stress Testing App to check the Dimm of ram and CPU IntelBurnTestV2.

It took only 2 passes of Standard test to show that my Computer was unstable. And this happened on all 4 Dimm's of Ram. So My Culprit was seeming to be the Motherboard or Ram, After giving it some thought I decided to Do what I like to think of as a Total Discharge, My hunch being it was a possible Static Build up. I Put all my hardware back in the PC and Pulled the Power Cord again then Pulled the CMOS Battery, and left the PC like that for over 24 Hours.

Fast Forwarding 34 Hours later I Replace the Battery and Power Cord and try to boot the PC which wouldn't Post with all 4 Dimms in. IT POSTED! So I Set my normal Bios Settings Minus my overclocking as were checking for full Stability again best to start from the start of even my CPU / Ram overclock.

The PC Booted OK into Windows 7 and I Loaded Intel Burn Test again and ran 100 Passes of MAX Stress Level (about 7GB on my PC that has 8GB of Ram). This Test took 8 Hours but is the harshest Test I know that pushes harder than any other memory test app I know of for the Intel CPU's and it Passed!

I Then Restored up most of my Overclock settings but still lower than id normally have and again Max Stress Test for 100 Passes and went to do other things and then bed. In the morning my PC Reported No Errors again! I Then Proceeded to set my old overclock and another and final test of again 100 Passes of Max Stress and went out for the day, Result: 0 Errors.

This leads me to believe that my hunch was spot on or very close. The PC needed time to fully Discharge itself and has been Perfect since then and is running like nothing ever happened!

If something Similar happens to someone here it couldn't hurt to try this and save yourself possible embarrassment when the manufacturer sends it back again leaving you out of a PC for a week with no fault found!

That is very strange indeed, if i ever have a problem its either a software or hardware fault, no strange occurrences like that

This has happened to me before, I was getting video artifacting all over the place, I let the computer unplugged for an hour and haven't had a problem since. i guess the PSU might be to blame?

Also, 100 passes in IBT is major overkill. 6 or so will do it beyond doubt

Better to test too much then too little, actually some of the errors popped up on pass 16 or so

Edit: oh my PSU wouldnt be to blame in this case I got a Corsair HX750W

my pc acted crazy once it rebooted by itself and after it rebooted all my files were gone. The interface changed into what it was right after I first bought it. I was so confused so I restarted my pc and it turned back to normal. Sometimes it goes normal and sometimes it will go that way again. One day I started up my pc to find it being like when I first bought it. I restarted my pc many many times but no avail. When I turned to my last resort ( PC repair shop ) they told me my harddisk was corrupted. I was so devastated. My files v_v

Well this if funny, a few weeks ago before i made my first post on here my PC had this unresponsive blackout , and it only happens wen i am asleep or away, it just happened again for the 2nd o3 3rd time (cant remember which) today, I thought it was Typical HP Crap malfunctioning again.

Well Kouens thread here clicked into my head and unpluged the power and let it be for a little bit (how it did it before) and waited like a minute, and pluged it backed in a and turned it on, and it started booting again, if i just tried to restart it, it would still show the black screen and be unresponsive .

im still betting on its HP garbage parts though along with Static .

Well seems I need to Factory Restore this POS HP computer again to see if it still freezes, not sure about the freezing, I think it may happen after a semi long period of time while the screen saver is running, always seems to freeze after im away for 30 ish minutes.
