Do they have a version of MSN Live Messenger for Linux? Seems like a silly question, but I actually do use it...

You wouldn't need to use any tools to defrag, to scan for malware or to repair the registry. So, not being able to use those Windows apps is not a drawback. There are antivirus apps for Linux, but it has very few viruses to detect. This is a list of known viruses that can affect Linux, but most of them are obsolete and Ubuntu 11.04 is immune to most of them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_malware#Threats

Beyond that, I don't really feel like installing it.

the few things that stop me personally loving Linux is and mostly the amount of fuckin around you have to do to get some things working.

Nevermind, apparently there are a couple of applications that work well.
Well, let's find out what time I wake up tomorrow (today...?) and see if I have time to fuck around with it.
But for now... more Uncharted 2!

There's no harm in setting up a dual boot. If anything it protects your Windows install from being affected while you use Linux. Limiting the exposure of Windows to malware is an effective way of keeping it secure.

That's why Natty is great, it comes with Unity, which simplifies using Linux so that you don't have to use command line as often.

I know there's no harm, I just usually end up finding other things to do with my time that installing a dual boot and learning a new OS isn't usually high on my list. I usually put up playing video games 'til the very end -- I've put in 8 hours on Uncharted 2 over the course of... let's say 6 weeks, and this is really the only game I've been playing other than a couple of hours that I took to play Symphony of the Night. I might end up doing it tomorrow, or I might end up staying up really really late tonight (seeing as it's already 2AM) and attempting it. Or at the very least, downloading the OS and attempting it sometime tomorrow.

I'm still not entirely sure how much I will end up using it, though. If I can see a noticeable improvement with very little fuckery to deal with, I'll probably stick with it. If I don't and it seems like a lot of work for very little payout, then I won't.

First thing's first, though... gotta finish this game.

Where as I barely game on my computer at all, so I actually have very limited compatibility issues to worry about, aside from a couple of "preferred" applications. Like the ONE FUCKING PIECE OF SOFTWARE I ACTUALLY PAID FOR, which randomly crashes on Win7 with files containing more than 100,000 characters (give or take) but worked marvelously on XP.

Kind of makes me wish there was a Linux build of it. Oh well.

I'm the same when it comes to alcohol, I drink enough to get relaxed but not enough that I lose control and start acting like an idiot, I really hate some drunk people.

    I don't smoke either.
