I heard about that ages ago, but I trust they'll stick with Nintendo, and If they don't, I don't think donkey kong will be moving as he was originally a nintendo character.

No way is Donkey Kong going over to the Xbox. Donkey Kong was Mario's first game, and Nintendo owns both. You don't think they'd let go of the namesake of the game that started their best and most well known game series, do you? In cases like this, know what you're talking about. I can't belive you haven't heard of Donkey Kong the game.

Nintendo's justification in letting Rare go is this. Last year thier games accounted for something like 9.5% of Nintendo's revenue for the fiscal year. This time around, its only about 1%. Rare is no longer a viable accuisition, and thus Nintendo is cutting them loose. However, Donkey Kong is owned by NINTENDO. Just because they allowed Rare to handle the character over a series of games doesn't mean that Rare owns the character. By that logic one could come to the conclusion that Rare owns Star-Fox now as well, and thats nonsense. However, I'm not too sure about Perfect Dark, so who knows about that one? Bottom line is again that Rare just wasn't cutting it profit wise for Nintendo, and they have decided to cut them loose.
It's only a matter of time till it becoms clear wether or not Microsofts accuisition of Rare bares any fruit, and if it does just how tasty it is. I can say that its a good thing Microsoft finally has someone with as much clout as Rare on thier side.
Anyway, this isn't the end of the world people. Nintendo hasn't made a mistake, and it doesn't mean the GameCube is going anywhere. It's all about bussiness, and thats all.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
(Those are really my true feelings..
)
How can Nintendo do this ?? I feel betrayed!! Nintendo & Rare make the best team in the world, they've been together forever, and the output has been low only because the N64 sucked. Perfect Dark and Dk64 , etc etc RARE titles were all HITS! Doesn't Nintendo have enough sense to know that RARE + SQUARE could make the GCN top together, just like the SNES..
What a bunch of idiots.. I'm going away to cry..

they'll leave nintendo. like so many companies did with the whole N64 fiasco. companies were charged huge fees for making games for nintendo. they sometimes come back so i wouldnt be too worried aboot it. rare might just go multi platform...thats the best way to make money. doing the exclusive thing is a stupid move. the more consoles that you put a game on, the more profit you get...if it sells, lol. then they can see what console sells the best and they can make more games for that system.
IMO exclusive things suck.
video games, action figures and comics. it pisses on the person that doesnt have access to that store or system.
microsoft is terrible for that...tries to stanglehold developers into signing an exclusive deal with them...even if its for a year or two.
i just think that exclusives are bad!!!!!!!
i dont know if im making any sence, its 530 am and im going to bed, lol. night all.,

Uh. Rare does hold alot of clout, and generally makes top notch games, however they release what....one every 12 years? All kidding aside, no matter how great a developer Rare is, if they aren't making Nintendo money then they are no longer viable from a business standpoint. Rare accounting for a mere 1.5% of Nintendo's profits this fiscal period is less then flattering to them, and to Nintendo as well. Rare has always been known to release games when they are damn well good and ready, but it also means numurous delays. That quality over quantity stance means we as gamers get the better product. Unfortunatly it keeps Rare from being a viable source of income to Nintendo. So Nintendo has to do what any business would do, and cut its losses. Unfortunatly that means that Rare is up for grabs, should anyone decide to purchase them.

The N64 fiasco, eh? The N64 was noowhere near a huge success, but it did well enough to sell through till the end. Hell, when I worked at Electronics Boutique, we sold a suprising amount of N64 systems. It wasn't as big as the PSX, but it was not a fiasco either.

I agree that multiplatform sounds better, but in the end it illiminates competition, and thus the game market stagnates with uncreativity. Lets say that there where never any exlusive games released, and games that came out on one system hit all three. There would be nothing distinguishing one system from the next, and I for one would get bored with that. Not to mention that if a company such as Rare were to become exlusive to Microsoft, then there more ammunition for them to use in the console wars. Then Sony and Nintendo have to work that much harder to ensure that gamers find intriquing content on thier platforms.

You my freind are silly. Video Games, action figues and comics? What do you mean? Care to clear that up? I dont think I get you on that one, sorry. Anyway, saying that Microsoft is terrible for getting developers to sign exclusive deals is to ignore....Nintendo and Silicon Nights for one. Bottom line is that exclusivity, especially on tittles that are expected to sell well or companies that have a name recognition is a part of the business. Its been going on for years, and Microsoft is no more guilty of it then Nintendo or Sony.

Calm down Iddi. Its not all that bad. Especially considering that they will still be free to release high-quality games on other systems. So if you are such a Rare fan, then just chill. YOU WILL STILL SEE THIER GAMES RELEASED.
