There's a lot of good things going on in new technologies for other energies, but, they fit into the current business models for those industries. Wind and solar can generate electricity, and the established entities currently producing electricity can still be the ones to offer their product to the public, so they are taking the new technologies and putting them into production. Not so with the auto industry. They would be shifting from the oil industry and giving (theoretically) all the cars to the electric industry.

You can bet they'll kill every idea they can get their hands on.

That's true, solar panels are a lot cheaper to produce then they were even a few years ago, and geothermal, wind, and hydroelectric energy have come a long way as well. Unfortunately though, we're still heavily reliant on coal to power most of the country's electrical grid. (Which in and of itself is in dire need of repairs/renovation, but that's another story.) Not that there are any viable alternatives at this point, but even clean coal plants are still pretty bad for the environment. You're right though, the automotive industry is so against newer and more efficient technologies for nothing more than greed, it's kind of disheartening. It's no wonder so many American car companies nearly went bankrupt during the recession, so many people realized how shitty most American cars are.

Also, I work at a supermarket that has a union. That helps, too. Top rate is $24.06/hr (which anyone on the food side of the store can make, even cashiers). Once I get my journeyman papers, my rate will be $26.35/hr

I was gonna say how you're mean for calling out sprung, but holy shit you make ~$23/hour cutting meat? Fuck, I'm in the wrong line of work...

It's mostly because of my union that I make that amount. There are cashiers here that make $24/hr just to run shit through the tills. The store that I work at is one of the highest paying grocery stores for non-management staff. Most places around here just barely make it past $20/hr for ticketed meat cutters.

Also, bitching hard to find full-time slots in my store. My per hour rate is higher than Sprung's, but his yearly income probably still exceeds mine by a few grand.
