My uncles are like this with their cars, too scared to get their hands dirty, they even pay someone else to take their cars for their MOTs.
When I had the PT Cruiser, I took it to the dealership for a tuneup because I'd been busy and didn't have time to do it myself. After paying them $350 to put new plugs and wires on it, I swore I would never do that again.

I could have bought 4 plugs for 88 cents each, and the wires for $15.

If I paid a shop to do it, it would have been at least $200. Same with brakes. I do it myself for less than $20 instead of $79.
I had to pay $340 to get my right side mirror replaced.

If I had ordered the mirror online, it would have been $34.

My grandfather is in his late 60s and does drag racing on weekends. He retired several years ago, but it was boring as fuck so he went back. Of course, he also does all the work on the car himself.

Indeed. I wouldn't have bothered getting it fixed personally, but mummy dearest needed to borrow the car to bus people back and forth from the airport the very next day.

Not interested in drag racing per-se, but I'd certainly not turn my nose up at watching him race.

I wish my parents were interested in cars, my mam just doesn't give a shit. My dad is very handy with repairing things, but has no interest in cars, he can fix push bikes though.

I recommend you track down a model kit called "The Visible V8". It's a model of a V8 engine that you build yourself, like a model car. It has every part a real V8 engine has in it, and will teach you about how it works.

I posted it awhile ago, but may as well since it was before the rollback.

The Maverick is him (left lane).

My dad's into cars as well, but hasn't really had the time or space to do much in the past few years. He's got a basket case '68 GTO with all the original parts and a running '67 Impala in his garage, but it's supposed to be a single-car garage. So yeah, no room to work on it.

EDIT: Not sure on the years there, but I know they're both late 60s, and one is a year later than the other.

I approve of this, although I'm generally not interested in American muscle cars. I prefer rally cars if anything.

I'd love to one day own a 205 GTI, Ford Sierra Cosworth or Escort XR3.

I know XR3 must make a huge difference, but over here Escorts are teenage girl and/or mommy cars
