First, what gives us the right to establish any restrictions over foreign soil? And if there's a valid argument, what would we say if, for example, China decided to come over and decide they didn't like our politicians for whatever reason, and wanted to make their own no-fly zone over the eastern seaboard? In my mind, it's no different.

    I'm surely oversimplifying it...
    Really? Nothing.

Technically? A coalition of major world powers that have sufficient power on a global stage to do such things. Think of it as a power cartel within the UN that doesn't generally respect the usual channels. Provided nobody really cares enough to call your shit on it, you can do whatever you want. Or, at least, nobody who has much clout on a global stage. Which, really, is a serious problem with american military and military based industries. But that's another rant.

China doesn't have the adequate military force to do such a thing, and with the way global politics works it'd essentially kick off WWIII. Plus it's in both your best interests not to piss in the pool. In order for a country to establish a no fly zone over your country they'd have to have an adequately sized air force, a sizeable amount of political and economic power, and they have to be able to do so without making it a serious shitfit.

Nobody really cares about Libya that much, and you guys have stakes in the country already. So, really, you're protecting your country's interests. Or so the argument could go if things get dicey and nobody buys the "we're just making sure he doesn't bomb his own cities/someone else does it for him" argument.

And our politicians are more worried about how an oil rig will interrupt the migration paths of sea life than it costing $5 for a gallon of gas,

Everyone should just think of crude oil as the top predator in the food chain and maybe those prices can drop a little .

You know that blank stare Prude gives you when you try to explain something complicated without drawing it out in crayon?

    Yeah, I have that.

Too much politics involved in something we could really get from our own land.

Libya is two kids having it out on the playground.

You're a bunch of huge guys holding back the crowd so nobody gets in the way.

    You've got money on this.

    Make more sense?
