I couldn't wait until July. I decided to mess around and try and translate Catherine myself...well at least some of it.

I'm almost done translating everything on the title screen. I've also narrowed down where pretty much the majority of the script is. I'll just set a month timeframe and just release whatever I have translated at that time I guess.

The important thing is what I've played so far is really fun. What a strange puzzle game. I would really like to know what the climbing a tower metaphor means.

I'm playing the expansion right now, it's much harder than the original game. It's a really fun game though, I would definitely recommend anyone who hasn't played it to check it out.

Considering the themes and the general concept (sheep, being urged/forced forward, being "trapped" in life, avoiding negative aspects of his life during nightmares, etc) I'd say the tower is roughly a metaphor for vincent's life, or at the very least a metaphor for how he views his life.

He had a very serious "I'm fucked and I hate my life, I want MORE dammit" attitude from the bit I played. Which, admittedly, was nearly nothing.

More directly, the writing staff has a serious hardon for tarot.

The tower (which, ironically, is often linked to the TOWER OF BABEL) is typically presented as a burning tower (in this case, the encrouching darkness takes the place of the fire, and it's somewhat more urgent) and represents turmoil in life. It also has some linkings to duality and the like. Very fitting. Of course, the implications of a tarot related interpretation can be rather...bad. Since it more or less makes Katherine the devil. I MAY have just spoiled the plot by overanalyzing.

In all seriousness, it's a pretty neat game, and I needed an excuse to use a hex editor.

I don't know how hard-core of a translation I'm going to go for. I figured I would mainly stick to gameplay-specific translating at first obviously. If I get enough worked on then I just might throw in my lot with some of the people over at PSX-Scene.
