Nah, it's considerably better than Dragon Age Origins was. Know why?

Because they tried to make Mass Effect instead of Dragon Age 2.

Yeah, I didn't enjoy the first one, but I got really entertained with this one.

Also, as much as I hate saying this, I hate when people play the games the way they're not supposed to. I borrowed BC2 to a friend and he's having a lot of fun with it, I tell him, yeah, it's all about co-op and sticking with your squad to win.

"Hell no. Assault is the only class I play, healing and resupplying is for idiots, it's all about going commando, no matter if I get killed a lot, I rock at this shit, fucking medics and engineers are useless."

I thought he was kidding. He's not.

I think that's why I'll like it. Mass Effect is a huge masterpiece, and Dragon Age felt outdated and...weird.

This one feels quite right, and it seems I don't need to play the first one, aside from backstory I think, I'm interested.

I was pleasantly surprised, but there's quite a deal of things I had issues with.

But a lot of that boils down to it being Dragon Effect rather than a proper continuation of Origins, so there's that.

DA2 happens shortly after 1 begins up to a couple months after the expansion to DAO ends. (which would be about a year after DAO, by my reckoning). So it should work fine. But from the looks of the demo, be prepared for stuff to go over your head. (OH HAI FLEMETH)

Yeah, I can understand the dislike for the ME-ification of the game, but to me it's like the new Splinter Cell game thing, I never liked the first ones, and I had a blast with the last one, mostly because it was a quasi-stealth 3rd person shooter, but the fandom hated it to death, I get that.

That said, I'll leave the stock character the way it is for me, I like that style for my character.

Eh, I'll give it another try to the first one later, I recall not liking Fallout 3 at first.

I have no problem with the gameplay. In fact, I consider that a serious improvement over the first. It's a lot of the other stuff that kind of irks me. They removed/downgraded a decent chunk of the roleplaying. Which would be fine were this not a ROLEPLAYING GAME and had the previous entry not done a VERY DECENT JOB OF THAT.

The gameplay itself: improvement. The engine the game is running on: much smoother and nicer.

Taking away origin stories, greatly decreasing character customization, cutting things down significantly on the dialogue choices, filling up at least one party slot with a rather boring sibling character, using what feels like a mismatched art style, and making everything BRIGHT AND SHINY in a DARK FANTASY SETTING are things that don't quite feel right.

Actually, the game doesn't really feel or play like Mass Effect, so the "if I liked ME2, I'll definitely like DA2" doesn't work as well as I hoped. Still gave a somewhat uncertain thumbs-up to the game, much like Ray. Combat felt really tedious in the later stages of DA:O, so speeding it up us not a completely unwelcome change as far as I'm concerned.

Also, the mage. HAVE YOU SEEN THE MAGE.

I always pick humans in every game I play, but yeah, removing orcs (?) and elves is something that wasn't needed, that was pretty slick, at least for my PS3 friend, he's a big fan of the first game and he'll miss the elf.

Yeah, at first I thought I was playing a DMC game or something, the slashes and attacks are quite stylish. And even if I like ME a lot better, I do enjoy the whole "stained with enemy blood fucking everywhere" thing after a battle.

Oh, I just like the interaction options of ME2, and that the character has a voice and actually interacts with the rest of the characters, the only game I can endure having that is Persona, but it's because it's story is strong enough that you can get by with a silent protagonist.

Uh, yeah, the dialogue wheel. Not sure how I feel about that. We'll have to wait for the full game and see. But I'm kinda expecting less choices.

Also, is it bad that after ME2 I feel a strange urge to replay 1?

I played an elf rogue in DAO. I will be a mage in DA2.

You don't see the obvious ME influences? How could you not? Just watch the Flemeth cinematic. Pacing characters and main character speech was OUT OF THE QUESTION in DAO. As far as playing like ME, yeah, it won't, but that's because it plays like a better DAO. Back in those days, hiding behind cover and shooting were simply unheard of.
