Funny, Minecraft crashed on me yesterday for the first time ever.

Yeah, boating around exploring is pretty fun. I hope they end up figuring out how to make save files smaller.

As far as i know the only things saved are...

1. Locations of all the blocks
2. Locations of all the monsters/animals
3. Your spawn point, your inventory, everything in chests.
4. The time of day.
5. Your current Position.

And some other stuff I'm probably forgetting.

It's about as efficient as it can be though.

It also saves any items that were dropped/thrown for about a half a day and all of the world map that you've loaded. So basically how far you've traveled in any given direction.

Notch has commented that they're going to try and figure out a way to make the save files smaller though, so there's also that.
