Yeah, playing without pads sounds like a wonderful idea.
It's actually safer, particularly in terms of concussions and general head injuries. A lot of tactics in gridiron are only possible because the helmets and padding provide enough protection to keep you conscious after doing it but its only partial protection and the damage adds up over time.

Less tendency towards heart problems as well, thanks to the more generalised need for cardio fitness and less bulk.

Two people died playing Rugby in Virginia, did they confuse Rugby with Jousting?

I find it hard to believe two people died playing rugby at your university, most people who play rugby are huge feckers.

If anything how badly monitored/ran was that team that let two people to die in one year.

I just can't believe that story and not a single link on google has come up to show anybody died in the university of virginia while playing rugby.

Seriously, people used to be shocked when they saw me playing rugby and being moderately competent at it. It was always funny to see the looks on their faces when I'd take down someone twice my size.

I don't really know anything about either, as I'm not particularly interested in sports. I've been told about the various disease processes related to repeated head trauma, however. It seems impossible to take a psychology or anatomy class without hearing how becoming a boxer or an American football player is a horrible decision, if you care about your brain.

Maybe they did, I have no idea. I didn't exactly sit down and watch.

I don't really know about anything that happened with them, just that one had a bunch of seizures. It was one of those things where everyone on the whole campus starts being really depressed about the death of someone they would have never heard of otherwise. I didn't particularly care.
