Wii doesnt have a huge number of 'hardcore' games, but most consoles don't. I'm sorry. By your definition, most games these days are fun for a little while then drop out. Very few offer any real replay value. As for actual 'difficulty', even the most 'casual' game like Mario Galaxy 2 has some insanely hard challenges. Or play things like shiren on the Wii, or Muramasa. Frankly, I find Muramasa on hard to be more difficult than 90% of the games I own on the PS3/360.

Casual gaming is king of the market. People may be unhappy at how gaming is focusing on doing, but it's what sells.

Are we talking about the PSPhone or the NGP? so far the NGP has been branded with the price of 999.99 and I say to hell with that!
I am so ninja, I fart in your cereal while you are still eating it.

Odds are it will be expensive but worth it if it's anything like the first PSP.

Emulator machine man. Hope it gets a good library for a change from the start.

A Monster Hunter bundle would cause a riot.
For launch? Probably not, but they already tech demoed a Monster Hunter "game," so Sony already has their golden-egg laying goose set for Japan, in fact, I'm willing to bet Monster Hunter Portable 3rd G will be on it, which means I'm buying one ASAP.

-EDIT- I just found out they're porting the PSP MHP3rd, so never mind.

That's just GameStop being stupid, it's already proven false, Id' like to think Sony has learnt their lesson here, saying the price will be affordable, and remain optimistic. I agree with Quiji, the price will be worth it for this hardware. I suppose Sony can take solace in the fact that the 3DS is launching first in a few weeks to see how things develop, if there is a half-competent executive left in Sony, they can adjust their gameplan.

Most games may be casual, but the wii has the worst hardcore to casual ratio I have seen. The sad thing is is that most wii game devs feel they have to utilize waggle in order for the game to feel wiiish enough or else they've failed Ninty I guess. Hopefully Ninty will utilize traditional controllers for those that don't want to flail their arms like idiots for the next gen because I doubt grandma and little timmy are going to be duped twice for a system with little substance. Also everything wii is backwards land. Ps3 and xbox lose or make even on console sales while Ninty gains on console sales. Furthermore, PS3 and Xbox games get cheaper when a game is really popular while Wii game prices are far more static towards the higher end. I've seen new ps3 and xbox games actually cheaper than a preowned copy.

I'm not denying that the wii has some extraordinary games, but most top wii games lists include the only good wii games. With the wii, it's either awesome or utter crap.

"It's not going to be $599, Instead it will be only $598"
it would be funny if he said that.

I'm going with the 3DS, I liked my psp but it has such a lack of support these days and I don't see the ngp going anywhere either, but the NGP and 3DS aren't even out yet so your comparing nothing to nothing. The 3DS will have a head start again and the NGP will fall behind again. Nintendo has a strangle hold on the industry and as for the 3DS being not so hard core, your full of crap. Its got some pretty hard core launch games.

Isnt that kind of stupid to argue about... but for the sake of argument i believe 3ds have a bigger chance to conquer the handheld market.

why do i think so ?

    Because:
    1. As u alrdy know Nintendo started this market with the creation of Mr. Game&Watch.
    2. the Gameboy came by and offered more capabilities.
    3. Sega and Atari tried to rival nintendo so they mad the game gear and Lynx bothe system had their flows and failed
    4. Pokemon was created and it's considered the best selling nintendo game ever....
    5. GBA came with better gfx and had 0 compatetors.
    6. NDS came with touch technology and made it all the to the top.
    7. Sony mad PSP which was a device that offered nothing new to the market where is hardly had device exclusives while nintendo DS was full of exclusive...
    8. If u think about it for a minute... what will attract non-players to buy such a device 3D without glasses or PSP with better gfx ? 3D will definitely attract more people.
    9. Hardcore gamers will always enjoy playing the 3DS because of the exclusive titles... Zelda,Mario,Metroid,Fire Emblem (this game is too hardcore),Star Fox,Pokemon (best selling) ,....Etc
10.For parents price tag > quality (by quality i mean gfx) and i bet PSP 2 will be as pricy as ever .
    11. Gaming is not about GFX it's about gameplay and 3d will offer new gameplay style in the table like the Wii did.

anyway these are some good reasons that show the 3DS as more powerful device but still PSP 2 might have a big chance if the 3g connection was powerful enough to handle gaming online.

    4. Pokemon is the same game over and over again in new regions.
    5. What does GBA have to do with 3ds being tops
    6. Nds was made on top of a gimmick. There are games that are great, but most just used the gimmick to survive.
    7. PSP was more powerful and it only suffered because games were relatively unmade for it. That is devs and publishers job.
    8. I believe this 3d phase will die down in a couple months when people decide they would rather play without the headaches, glasses or not.
    9. 3ds will be more marketed to casual audience just like ds and wii is. Ninty has not changed.
    10. Of course parents will buy the cheaper game. I knew a guy that would never spend more than five dollars a game. And he would always complain that said cheap game sucked. You get what you pay for. My nephew is more into games than even me and he rarely plays his ds because for one very few games are any good and two I can tell he isn't too fond of the touch screen. But parents buying more 3ds's does not make the 3ds better.
    11. Gaming may not be about graphics, but that doesn't mean game devs shouldn't even try. I still play my snes, n64 gamecube ps2 and I emulate other older systems as well so I don't consider myself a graphics whore, but If you have ever played a game as large as fallout 3 you'd know a snes could not handle the size. I'm not talking graphically. It takes more than just a graphics card or whatnot for a game. there is also processing as well as many other factors. So a system that is far more powerful than another has a lot more possibilities. Another thing is that you only mentioned first-party titles. That has been Ninty's weakness for a long time. For some reason most 3rd party devs aren't serious enough about making a good game and that low par for quality has made ds and wii games suffer the most. The sad thing is is that they often take up the space a good game could have had for the wii/ds on the store shelves.

Here are some reasons why the NGP may actually win.
    1. greatest hits. If a game sells enough the price will decrease creating further incentive for someone to buy a PSP2 and said game. Ninty has fallen behind here. Games released several years ago are almost full price still and many of them are top sellers.
    2. Price. $250 for a handheld that has likely seen only small improvements besides the tacked on 3d or a handheld that you know is worth the price. It's like having a ps3, only portable. I have a ds lite from the last handheld generation and I feel the media playing abilities are greatly limited. Mp3s play fine, but sound quality is bad compared to an mp3 player. Furthermore the ds can only play files that are in dpg format. Movie files I have all seem to jump from 20MB to around 150MB. And then you find out the ds can't really handle the video anyway so video function is out. With Psp2, I could listen to all of my music and watch movies without enlarging the filesize and degrading the quality and framerate so it can catch up. Then I could play my games and not get hand cramps from holding the handheld.
    3. Format. When games get ported form 360 and ps3 to wii, the game gets heavily butchered. Therefor if a game is on both, the PSp2's is likely to be more fully featured and the 3ds's will be more of a glorified demo with a feature that is really unnecessary.
    4. The lesser of two evils. I am not a big fan of Sony, but I don't like Ninty either. Overall, I'd say Sony is the lesser of two evils. What's to say you won't be playing a game and you have finally gotten past a part really far into it and you haven't saved. What if Ninty popped a message that said "now updating" and your system gets rebooted immediately to update. Or what if your battery is to low and it updates running the power out while updating. Then you would have a bricked 3ds. Ninty wouldn't hesitate to brick it just like they didn't hesitate to brick all of those unmodded wiis (they were unmodded because smart modders usually don't update for just this reason unless it's deemed safe).
    5. games. Those titles you mentioned were first-party titles. Ninty has always had some problems with 3rd party games besides the usual licensed games. Ninty's games also seem to be watered down when ported form other systems. Zelda has been good except PH at least(I haven't played st). That game is seeming way too easy, even compared to the non overhead games. There are zelda fans older than 7 and they would like at least some challenge. They don't have to be Nintindo hard, just harder than a toddler's zelda game. This brings me back to my older point about being marketed to kids. Mario has been good, but even he has been in a bad game or two (shudders at thought of cd-i). Also at this point, what direction does mario go. If only they would remake a certain rpg for the snes with mario in it. Instead we'll probably get another olympics game. metroid may be a good series (hopefully Team Ninja didn't wreck it), but Other M was disastrous. Fire emblem, you really can't expect too much yet over here in America when they've just started bringing titles over. I liked the radiance series. Never had too much of a chance to play starfox other than the zelda clone. Pokemon is as I said the same game again and again, besides they have just came out with black and white for ds so it will be a couple years before than come out with the next Pokemon repetition series. Besides, the series went downhill after the second gen. If those are the only series the 3ds will be counting on besides the occasional 3rd party gem here and there, then the library will be as bad as the wii's.
    6. Gameplay. You said it yourself, the 3d will attract more non gamers than a quality game. That's the gimmick. Most game devs will be banking on the gimmick since people who don't play games will not know a crappy game when they see one. If it's a feature that is largely unneeded, then it's a gimmick. If the gimmick is the selling point then you can throw out any idea that many will take the 3ds' potential to it's limits when all they have to do is throw some 3d on a crappy game. They've been doing that for the wii for a long time with it's waggle controls.

Well u got a gr8 point mario had some bad games lately (olympics and sport stuff) but still u cant deny the fact that mario begun the Era of gaming we are living right now (for e.g Super Mario Bros. was the first side scrolling and Super Mario 64 was the first fully functioned 3D game) but w/e im not a big mario fan because im more of an RPG adventurer type so Pokemon,Zelda and Fire Emblem are always on the top of my list.

But still i dont agree with u in the Semi-Fact that 3DS cause headaches, in fact Nintendo wont let such thing happen.

    The Reason :

I guess you are fimiliar with an old handheld (or it supposed to be one atleast) called Virtual Boy, this handheld was a gr8 idea in the beginning but when it got launched the handheld has big flaws like it was hardly considered a handheld and it caused headaches and seizures. So from these facts I bet ninty wont Fail again and i believe they have done alot of tests to make this happen.

In the other hand even without 3D the handheld look amazing gfx wise it's way better and TBH im more of a nintendo fan because i like what nintend got to offer so I dont care who win or lose the most important thing that the 3DS make decent sales so we get more amazing games, the console war is so stupid.... and I'd suggest that this thread get locked, because it doesn't served any purpose.

    Holy bacon, wall of text.
    @ heer
    Okay lets see...
Firstly, I believe the 3DS will flog the PSP2 just as the DS did
The platform is innovative, has a great launch library and boasts some smick specs
Second, the comment on nintendo casual game ratio. More or less anything good that has come from nintendo is likely to be a first or second party game. Nintendo have terrible support policy when it comes to third party developers, always have and always will which is why they get stuck with all these halfbaked games. Atleast now they seem to be over the "lol wiimotion" phase and are actually trying to win true gamers in. Anywho, PS3 and xbox have the same problem after jumping on the bandwagon of motion control.
Interestingly enough, almost any of these core games on sony systems are likely to be third party.
Thirdly, whats wrong with formulaic games. Some of the best games are based on a simple formula. Pokemon is highly successful and still enjoyable, so why we hatin =D
Fourthly, DKC: R, while I has mixed feelings for, is HARDCORE
fifthly, Whats wrong with using a gimmick? you play the card you are dealt
sixthly, wait wait wait, you are attacking nintendo for a poor library, yet youre defending the psp against the same thing and its not its fault the developers didnt like it? ... Anyway, of 6th gen consoles the gamecube technically was most powerful, what difference did that make?

    your argument frustrates me because

    a) you are projecting nintendos buisiness plan

you argue that nintendo are going to rely on cheap prices and casual games to get them through, I see nothing wrong with this as long as they provide quality.

Look at the launch titles, Kid Icarus: Uprising, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, Steel Diver, Star Fox 64 3D, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Madden NFL, Crush 3D, Thor: God of Thunder, Dead Or Alive: Dimensions

These are no casual games. Other solid games will follow too with entries from franchises like kingdom hearts, metal gear, megaman legends and the bat man. In no way is this a weak lineup.

I may be a trusting lamb, but i like to think nintendo used the wii initially to increase its fanbase and revenue and now they are focusing on quality to maintain this fanbase. smart marketing.

    b) you claim 3ds will induce headaches.

firstly the 3ds 3d capabilities are completely optional
secondly, 3d does not mean headaches will ensue. It just has to be done right.
thirdly nintendo have claimed it is safe but advise against 6 and under ages to use 3d incase it damages their eyesight
fourthly this is just a precaution, optometry firms have confirmed that the 3ds is harmless.
fifthly, nintendo have been in 3d for decades, the technology is well researched by now

All I see is complaints about good marketing, poor third party support and problems that you assume will happen "because its ninty" or because of their thinking outside the box. I dont care if you love it or hate it, buy it or dont, but seriously, youre slinging a fair bit of dirt at something that hasnt been launched yet on the basis of a brief stretch of a company that has survived and succeeded for decades. It just doesnt seem fair

Ill agree with the sultan. The console war is stupid. The pride in one system just damages the industry and segregates the gaming community. Itd be fine if it were like the nintendo/sega war. I found that very much light hearted. But fanboys of specific consoles these days, usually sony or microsoft, have a tendancy to be elitist. there is more than one way to skin a cat. who cares if one is different? who cares that one is better or worse? play or dont play, simple as that

i serisously put this post to see what people would say. honestly the reason i prefer nintendo is the fact that they have great customer service (sony and microsoft kept putting me on hold) and i also think that saying its gimmiky is stupid, i say the iphone is nothing but a gimmik.

Please refer to that for other games...

oh and pardon my earlier posts, i got confuzzled

anyway, i`m going to have to say im going to buy the 3ds, simply because my 1st console was nintendo, as was my 3, 5 and 6, so i am a fanboy now.
I`m certainly not getteing it for the 3d. that will stay in the off position.
you said that nintendo has horrid 3rd party support, until you look at enix, who make some of them best conitributions to the system. as for the psp2, i dont think that it will do too bad, im just thinking that sony will drop it within 3 years, much like the psp2. also i dont see the greatest quality control for sony either. you see games coming out like buzz, CoD, and many minigame collections, so much that it rivals the wiis amount.

While i will admit that most of nintendo`s hardcore games are first party, but sony`s and microsoft`s are mostly third party who can be unreliable. im looking at you capcom *cough cough* resident evil. And its not like the first party games aren`t good.you have mertroid, which spawned a genre, mario, which revolutionized gaming, zelda, created action rpg`s,and tetris, the original puzzle game. these are just a few examples.

anyhow, i really didn`t want to tell off other brands, its just the whole console war is stupid, and whoever started flaming first, i have to flame what they were defending while flaming.
I can't believe I got the admins to give me a Sesame Street username.
